Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)
TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat severe aortic valve stenosis, a condition in which the aortic valve becomes narrowed and restricts blood flow from the heart to the body.
Instead of open-heart surgery, TAVI allows a new artificial valve to be delivered through a catheter, usually through an artery in the groin, and positioned inside the diseased aortic valve. The new valve takes over the function of the damaged valve and helps restore normal blood flow.
